2008 Quinta del Rio

An excellent Tempranillo from a region that specializes in it.

Tempranillo is a grape that is considered almost uniquely Spanish. It is also the signature grape of the region of Ribera del Duero; in fact, the region is almost entirely devoted to the grape. As such, the skill of the best local winemakers to produce great wine from Tempranillo is unmatched. And Quinta del Rio is certainly one of the best. Notes of tree bark, eucalyptus and balsamic lead on the nose with undercurrents of the fruit. The fruit becomes more pronounced on the palate, lingering from the first taste all the way through the finish. The fruit is balanced by the other flavors, primarily those found on the nose. All in all, the wine is balanced, fresh and full of flavor. Consider pairing with Spanish-style food. Our favorite? Classic tapas.
