2009 Domaine du Gouyat
Delicious French white wine from Bergerac
While the name Bergerac may first bring to mind literature’s most well-known hopeless romantic (Cyrano de Bergerac), the region should be known for its outstanding wines. The reds often sit in the shadow of their cousins from Bordeaux but the whites shine brilliantly. The Domaine du Gouyat is one such white. A blend of 50% Semillon and 50% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2009 is a luscious dry white with aromas of currants and peaches. The fruits continue on the palate, making the wine fresh, fruity and tasty. Light enough to pair with appetizers while being complex enough to go with seafood main courses, this is a versatile wine. One could even enjoy it all by itself.
