2009 Granite Ridge Chenin Blanc
Versatile Chenin Blanc used in spectacular fashion
Chenin Blanc is a French grape that also is likely to have been one of the very earliest planted in South Africa, centuries ago. Combine the history of the grape in the country with Granite Ridge’s knack for making tasty wine, and you’ve got a surefire winner. Chenin Blanc is extremely versatile and can be used for just about everything in the white wine spectrum. However, it is hard to argue with Granite Ridge’s use of it to create their lively and fruity dry version. The fruit that is present on the palate tastes of pears and is joined with flavors of sherbet and even a hint of flintiness. The fresh fruit flavor lingers and the finish is notable for a hint of lime and minerality that leave the imbiber refreshed. Truly a great wine to be had any day you like, it is easily enjoyed outdoors with a salad or appetizer of your choice.
