2007 Chateau Carolena Zinfandel
American oak and a touch of Syrah lend depth and complexity to this luscious California Zinfandel
If you love Zins with ripe, luscious, red fruit, cherry with hints of blueberry and vanilla, soft, juicy and delicious tannins, this Zinfandel is for you! Made with grapes from the Lodi region, which is famous for fruit-forward Zins that have the complexity of old vines, this one is blended with a touch of Syrah to give it even more depth. Some of the wine was aged ten months on American oak, so there’s that nice vanilla-coconut spice on the nose. And the alchohol, at 14%, is not going to overwhelm the wine. This wine is friendly enough to be enjoyed by itself or with a variety of foods, but the general rule with big Zins is to serve them with big food. The classic pairing is with a big, sweet, juicy steak. Perhaps with crisp golden potatos and a salad sprinkled liberally with pomegranate, gorgonzola, olive oil and dark, aged balsamic.
